Innsbrucker Nordketten cable cars
The Nordkette cable cars include the Hungerburgbahn, the Seegrubenbahn, and the Hafelekarbahn. They not only allow you to reach around 2,300 meters in height from the center of Innsbruck in the shortest time and with minimal effort, but they are also architecturally extraordinary.
In particular, the modern Hungerburgbahn stands out. It was designed by the Iraqi-British star architect Zaha Hadid (1950–2016), who drew inspiration from the snow and ice landscapes of the region. Accordingly, the futuristic-looking aesthetics of the delicately curved stations resemble glacier-like ice formations. The funicular railway, whose unique architecture has been honored with several awards, was opened in 2007. It replaced the old Hungerburgbahn, which was in operation from 1906 to 2005.
