The City Archive
documents the history of Innsbruck from its beginnings to the present day. The oldest municipal document is the confirmation of the city rights from 1239. Paintings, print graphics, posters, handbills, plans, estates of significant personalities, ordinances, and numerous special collections complete the archive's collection activities. Of great significance is the photo collection with about 100,000 images. The extensive library includes not only books but also several hundred journals and all major regional newspapers, some dating back to the 18th century.
